The firm

An electrical engineering practice built on demanding infrastructure.

LEAN was established in 2003 and has grown into a full-service electrical engineering firm. Power systems now represent a substantial and expanding share of our work, alongside the airfield electrical and navigational aids practice on which the firm was founded.

That combination is deliberate. The same engineers who design medium-voltage distribution, substations, and standby power for a facility also understand the operational constraints of an active airfield. Clients engage LEAN as prime consultant, as electrical engineer of record, and as a specialty partner to larger design teams.

About the firm

Practice mix

~35% Airfield electrical
~20% Navigation & airspace

Approximate distribution of current workload. Figures to be confirmed.

Licensed principals

Professional engineers serve as project manager and engineer of record throughout.

Code and standards fluency

NEC and CEC compliant design; FAA advisory circular coordination where applicable.

Constructible documents

Designs developed for how systems are actually built, phased, and energized.

Certified WMBE and SB

Verifiable participation credit for prime teams pursuing public work.

Practice areas

Three disciplines, one integrated electrical practice.

Each area stands on its own technical depth. Together they allow LEAN to carry an entire electrical scope, from the utility service through to the navigational aid at the end of the runway.

Leading practice area

Power Systems

Medium and low voltage power engineering for facilities, utilities, and infrastructure. Substations, distribution, standby generation, and the studies that prove the design.

  • Substation and switchgear design
  • Medium voltage distribution and duct bank
  • Short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies
  • Standby and emergency power, UPS, ATS
  • Solar, storage, and microgrid engineering
Founding practice area

Airfield Electrical

Airfield lighting, vaults, and control systems for active airfields, engineered and phased around live aircraft operations.

  • Runway and taxiway lighting design
  • Airfield vaults and constant current regulators
  • Lighting control systems and low visibility operations
  • Photometric field testing and commissioning
  • Construction management and inspection
Specialty practice area

Navigation & Airspace

Navigational aids and airspace engineering, including the federal coordination that precision approach systems require.

  • Instrument landing systems and NAVAIDs
  • Ground based augmentation systems
  • Approach and visual guidance lighting
  • Instrument flight procedures and airspace analysis
  • FAA coordination and non-federal procurement

Why clients select LEAN

Specialist depth, delivered with direct principal involvement.

Principals remain engaged

The licensed engineers who develop the approach carry it through delivery. Responsibility is not delegated after award.

Technical depth across disciplines

Power systems, airfield electrical, photometrics, and airspace engineering held in house rather than subcontracted.

Responsive by structure

A focused organization means fewer handoffs, shorter review cycles, and direct access to decision makers.

Operationally aware design

Work sequenced around live facility and airfield operations, protecting continuity of service throughout construction.

Certified diverse business

Women and minority owned, and a certified small business, supporting participation requirements on public projects.

Standards contribution

The firm participates in the development of industry standards and federal advisory guidance in its areas of expertise.
