Who we are
A nationwide leader in airfield electrical engineering — by design, not by accident.
Lean Technology Corporation is a women- and minority-owned engineering firm that has spent two decades doing one thing exceptionally well: the electrical and navigational systems that keep airfields safe and operational.
Our story
It started with light — and precision.
LEAN was founded in 2003 as Lean Photometrics, built around a then-novel idea: that airfield lighting should be measured and proven in the field, not just specified on paper. The firm pioneered the first photometric testing machine used for in-situ field testing of installed airfield fixtures — and that obsession with verified performance still defines how we work.
From that foundation, LEAN grew into a full-service airfield electrical and navigational-aids engineering firm. Today we are an industry-recognized nationwide leader in airfield lighting, airfield electrical, NAVAIDs, and airspace engineering — routinely working alongside the FAA and the FAA Technical Center to help shape new standards, advisory circulars, and FAA orders.
Our vast experience across dozens of major hubs and regional fields proves a simple promise: we deliver large, complex, operationally-sensitive projects on time and cost-effectively.
Milestones
Two decades on the airfield.
Founded as Lean Photometrics
Pioneered in-situ field photometric testing of installed airfield lighting — proving performance, not just specifying it.
Full airfield electrical & NAVAID practice
Expanded into runway lighting, vaults, power distribution, and navigational aids; began routine collaboration with the FAA on standards and advisory circulars.
Marquee runway programs
Electrical engineer of record on JFK's "Bay Runway," the SFO seven-runway relocation — the largest airfield program at SFO in 50 years — and SLC's terminal redevelopment.
Fast-track & award-winning work
OAK's Runway 12–30 overlay in a 13-day closure, LAX runway reconstructions and the Taxiway P vault, and SMF's ENR & ACPA award-winning Runway 16R–34L.
First-of-its-kind alternative GBAS
Delivered SFO's first fully-functional alternative ground-based augmentation system — advancing the future of precision approaches.
National & international reach
On-call programs coast to coast, growing federal and military work, and international engagements including a VOR upgrade at Ben Gurion.
What we stand on
Three commitments, every project.
Collaborate with our partners
We work as an extension of your team — clear communicators, decisive, and responsive whether we're prime or a specialty sub.
Deliver exceptional quality
Constructible, code-compliant, field-proven design. We measure success by what gets built and energized without surprises.
Bring creative solutions
Hard sites, live operations, tight windows — we engineer around real-world constraints instead of ignoring them.
Leadership
Principals who stay on the project.
At LEAN, the people who win the work are the people who do the work. Our principals serve as your project manager and engineer of record — start to finish.
Doron Lean, PE
25+ years and $650M+ of airfield electrical construction as EOR/PM. Frequent FAA advisory-circular contributor and pioneer of in-situ photometric testing. PE in CA, WA, and 8+ states.
Power & Distribution
Medium- and low-voltage distribution, substations, switchgear, and standby power — the backbone systems that energize the airfield and every facility on it.
Airspace & Flight Ops
Instrument flight procedures, aircraft performance, obstruction (7460) analysis, and safety-risk management for airspace-constrained fields.
Senior Electrical & CM
Power distribution, short-circuit & coordination studies, standby power, and electrical construction management on fast-track closures.
